Working Notes

Today’s Image: Free Flow

This site is for family and close friends, and we feel free to ramble, to chat, & to share both the lightweight and the more serious stuff.

Into this kaleidoscope come the messages that Abuelo is sharing in church, and the issues we are exploring in the Spanish Home Group/Life Group.

Under the category Scripture Snippets are the pre-preaching working notes, and links if a message was recorded.

Rivers not Rock Walls

“Though you have prepared your sermon carefully & thoroughly, you never know what is going to happen to it until you get into the pulpit & start preaching it.” Martyn Lloyd-Jones.

The notes may still differ from the final message. They are not solid rock walls, set and inflexible, refusing input and damming up the output. Instead they show the direction for the day, a river flowing within its banks, heading for a destination yet still free to escape into tributaries.

The Tributaries
Within each preaching, some subjects get a mention – and maybe a brief explanation.

  • Subjects touched on previously may be repeated, perhaps presented with fresh clarification.
  • Other areas may receive a more in-depth exposition.

And the spiritual antenna must be constantly tuned in on the day, to see if God is saying: “Go this way . . . now that – forget your notes for today!”

Working Notes – our Shorthand

We work with a personal form of shorthand in our notes.

  • Don’t look for perfectly parsed grammar.
  • and = : mean this is / there are and other simple verb forms – context makes it obvious;
or represent a positive that may be followed by a negative.
  • ≠ : means is not /are not etc.
  • ? : indicates the obvious – questions (!)
  • CAPITALS indicate points of emphasis that may be extemporaneously expanded.
  • Scriptures for the spanish church are printed out in spanish. Most refs are easy to figure out. (Hechos = Acts).
