Awaken the Dawn

Dawn drifts across the valley, lifting specks of light from the lemons in the green groves, nudging the shadows of the distant village. The music of morning flows in the rush and splash of the water flooding the dam below, counterpointed in multiple scales of birdsong.

‘I will awaken the dawn’ is the portion of scripture quoted on one of the posters. The sheer poetry in these words is a prayerful and praise-filled entry into worship.

Verses 1-5 of psalm 108 and verses 7-11 of Psalm 57 are almost identical. They are a wonderful place to start the day.

My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises!
Awake, my glory! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn.
I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to You among the nations.
For Your loving-kindness is great to the heavens And Your truth to the clouds.
Be exalted above the heavens, O God; Let Your glory be above all the earth.

For once I am moving away from my preferred King James translation.
The translation as used here appears in the ESV, the NASB and the NIV.

ESV = English Standard Version; NASB = New American Standard Bible; NIV = New International Version.
